Biosketch

Michael Kenney is a Software Engineer specializing in embedded system and Unix/Linux software development. As a member of the Ocean Engineering Department, he has worked on a wide range of projects from small autonomous drifters to moorings and cabled-observatory systems. Mr. Kenney came to the Laboratory as a graduate student in 1987 and joined the professional staff in 1988.

Ice Exercises 2016 — Logistics and Engineering Support

Every few years, APL-UW engineers travel to the Arctic to provide logistics and engineering support to the U.S. Navy submarine force and the Arctic Submarine Laboratory. They assemble a reliable shelter on the sea ice and assist with the experimental testing of scientific and military equipment in the Arctic environment.

Regional Scale Nodes — HD Video Camera

A high-definition video stream, sent real-time and uncompressed to shore from the Axial Volcano caldera, will be at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 60 frames per second, interlaced. The goal is to obtain the highest resolution views possible of jetting black smoker fluids and coupled biologial activity on this hydrothermal sulfide chimney.
